What is the Miracle Layer™ / Miracle Membrane®?

The Miracle Layer™, once called the Miracle Membrane®, is a revolutionary and exclusive polyurethane barrier film that is waterproof, yet silent and breathable. It stops spills and stains from penetrating into your mattress and protects you from dust mite allergens, mould, and bacteria.

Protect-A-Bed's silent and breathable waterproofing - The Miracle Layer™ or Miracle Membrane®

Will the mattress protector protect me against dust mites?

Yes, the mattress protector will protect you against dust mite allergens, as the Miracle Layer™ does not allow the dust mite faeces, which are often the cause of asthma and allergies, to penetrate. The size of the faeces particles are larger than the breathable pores of the Miracle Layer™.
Visit our page on the Miracle Layer™ for more information on how you are protected.

Will the mattress protector protect my mattress from stains?

Yes, the Miracle Membrane® is designed not to let liquid penetrate through the mattress protector, therefore, it will protect your mattress from getting stained.

Which side should be visible when I place it on my mattress?

The cotton terry towelling, Tencel®, quilting, or smooth surface should be visible when placed on the mattress, as this is the comfortable and absorbent side. The polyurethane waterproofing should be face down.

Does the skirt need to go directly under the mattress?

No, as long as the four corners of the mattress protector are secure.

Can I use an electric blanket with my mattress protector?

Yes. Simply layer your mattress protector over the electric blanket, protecting it from spills and stains, along with your mattress. Always check your electric blanket manufacturer instructions.

Is it recommended that I wash my mattress or pillow protector before it is used it for the first time?

Yes, because when produced the fabric is starched, for easier cutting during production. Therefore, washing it will remove any starch that may remain.

What is the best temperature to wash my Protect-A-Bed® product on?

Warm wash at 60ºC or 150 ºF, as this is warm enough to kill bacteria and dust mites.
Visit our page on product care for more information.

Can I dry my Protect-A-Bed® products in the dryer?

Yes, you can tumble dry your mattress protector at low to medium (65°C or 150°F to 70°C or 160°F). Always dry with other linens, as this stops the waterproofing from sticking to hot air inlay.
Visit our page on product care for more information.

Can I bleach my Protect-A-Bed® product?

No, because the bleaching process will destroy the waterproofing.
Visit our page on product care for more information.

Can I hang my Protect-A-Bed® product outside to dry?

Yes, you may hang your protector out to dry. However, it may turn yellow if exposed to too much sun. But, that will not affect the durability or integrity of the protector.
Visit our page on product care for more information.

Can I iron my Protect-A-Bed® product?

No, do not iron your protector, as it could damage the waterproofing.
Visit our page on product care for more information.

Can I sterilise my Protect-A-Bed® product?

Yes, it can be wet sterilised at 120°C or 250°F. Using chemicals to sterilise, however, will destroy the waterproofing.

My cat urinated on my bed, no liquid or stains got through my mattress protector. However, there is still a strong smell. Why?

The mattress protector is designed to be impermeable to liquids, yet permeable to gasses and vapours, which is why it is breathable, despite being waterproof. Therefore, the smell of the urine might penetrate the barrier and permeate the mattress. Just use an odour eliminator.

Are the sides of the mattress protector covered under warranty?

No, the warranty only covers the sleeping surface of the mattress, (unless you have purchased the Elite/Tence®l with Side-Protection, which has side-protection.)
Visit our page on warranty information for more information.

What do I do if I spill something on my mattress protector?

My protector has brown scuff marks on the Miracle Layer™. Why?

Your temperature settings are set above the 70°C that the protector should be dried on, causing it to scorch. Or, the protector has caught on the hot air inlay of your tumble dryer, due to not washing with other linens. This is not covered under warranty.
Visit our page on warranty information for more information.

My protector has bubbles and blistering on the Miracle Layer™. Why?

The temperature settings on your tumble dryer are set above the max required temperature, causing the Miracle Layer™ to soften and pull away from the comfort layer. This is not covered by the Protect-A-Bed® warranty.
Visit our page on warranty information for more information.
